Rhône Reds
The Rhône Valley in Southern France is one of
the world’s great wine regions. The area is divided
geographically into two sub-regions: the Northern Rhône,
and the Southern Rhône. It is also the traditional home
of the Syrah grape, which has been planted in this part
of France for two millennia. |

Beaumes-de-Venise,
(Grenache/Syrah/Mourvèdre), Fenouillet,
‘Terres Blanches’ Beaumes-de-Venise, 2006
Beaumes-de-Venise is a small town located in the
southern part of the Rhône Valley. The climate is warmer
in the Southern Rhône, and as a result, this wine is
more full-bodied, with darker fruit on the palate, and
some earthier notes. Mourvèdre is also blended in this
wine, which adds a bit more spice as well.

Crozes-Hermitage (Syrah), M. Chapoutier, Crozes-Hermitage,
2006
Crozes-Hermitage is located in the Northern Rhône, the
epicenter of Syrah country. While some Crozes-Hermitage
wines have some white wine blended into them, this wine
is 100% Syrah. It has great structure, with nice juicy
fruit, and some eucalyptus notes as well. It also
contains some of the spice flavors traditionally
associated with Syrah.
